Uthandi beach house

Located 100m inland from the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Chennai, this vacation house was designed to bring the outdoors inside. The front entrance is approached through a door, which had been reclaimed from a previous residence of the client, peeking through between the thick vegetation. Two glass boxes separated by a semi open courtyard, flanked by a 13m long swimming pool and surrounded by thick wild flora. For the summers the glass box was designed to be insulated by bamboo chicks and water sprinkler to wet it. The main box houses the dining, kitchen, store, master bed and toilet, while the secondary box serves as a drawing cum reading room along with amenities and complimentary spaces for the pool. Open grass lawn followed by thick vegetation creates visual continuity within a confines private setting.
